Funding for Post Qualifying Studies

Skills for Care London produced a brief overview of the funding streams available for supporting candidates undertaking Post-Qualifying (PQ) Awards in Social Work within the revised PQ framework in September 2007. Funding Streams for Post-Qualifying Awards in Social Work can be downloaded from http://www.skillsforcarelondon.org.uk/our-work-pqf.htm

Independent social workers seeking financial help for the funding of their post-qualifying studies will be able to apply for a PQ Bursary at any time until March 2009 - or until the fund is exhausted. The Children's Workforce Development Council and Skills for Care jointly offer PQ Bursary Awards to independent, locum or freelance social workers candidates who:

· Do not have an employer or work on contracts of 12 hours of less;
· Are working for small voluntary or not-for-profit organisations with 50 or less registered social workers; or
· Use services and are formally supporting social work education.

Candidates must be resident (and have been) in the UK for the last three years and undertake the majority of their work in England. The award is available to those working towards either a GSCC-approved PQ Specialist Award in Social Work, the PQ Higher Specialist Award in Social Work, or the Advanced Award in Social Work.

The bursary award is not available to candidates who source their work via recruitment agencies. The application form can be downloaded from: www.practicelearning.org.uk/Post_Qualification_(PQ)/default.html
